Eric Wedge has always had an reputation around baseball as being intense and grabbing any situation by the horns that he can get his hands on. Weather it was as a minor league manager, career utility man, or manager of the Cleveland Indians the passion has always been there for Wedge. Mariners ownership have the confidence in Wedge to turn around the struggling Mariners who loss a 101 games last year. Hopefully he can serve as a mentor and motivator for a team that has some proven players and young alike that want to win immediately.
Youth will be what Seattle will lean on for the 2011 season as the team twill attempt to return to the playoffs for the first time in 2001. The team will rely on the powerful pitching of Felix Hernandez last years American League Cy young winner. The team is hoping that many of its young players will improve and give the offense A boost which averaged an historicil 3.17 runs a game. Perrenial all-star Ichiro Suzuki and infielder Chone Figgins along with strong pitching the team will hopefully make a run at the AL Wild Card position. Team ownership hope that manager Eric Wedge will make strides towards success during his first full season using his experience and reputation as a “player coach”.
