Following yet another loss, this time 5-2 to the Marlines, I’m sure members of the Tacoma Rainers’ Major League affiliate probably wanted to be put out of their misery.
I don’t blame them. I want to be put out of my misery and I just watch the team.
In order to speed things up for myself, I should just type in the following phrase into my autotext feature:
“The Tacoma Rainers’ Major League affiliate suffered from poor pitching and a lack of hitting in a [insert score] loss to [insert team].”
That’s why the team lost Wednesday night and that’s why it’ll lose a lot more games before the season is finished.
But fret not Mariner nation principality fan. The rest of the season will be bearable to watch if for only one thing: changes.
It started with Bill Bavasi earlier this week. With an off day today you’ll probably see some more shaking up within the organization. There may be a, new coach, some new players or the end to Ritchie Sexon’s Seattle career. All of this may not lead to better baseball but at least it’ll be fresh. It gives us something new to talk about. At the very least it gives us a small glimmer of hope because we can blame poor play on youth rather than suck.
So raise a glass, or five ten 15 of them to accepting poor to mediocre baseball the rest of the season. And let’s hope some of these players are eventually put out of their miseries.
