It’s probably too early to throw up the white flag but that doesn’t mean tthe fans or journalist can’t be extremely negative. Like Geoff Baker from the Seattle Times. In his latest blog post he essentially went off on the Mariners after their pathetic 5-1 loss to the Yankees.
This was one of the worst displays I’ve seen from the Mariners — ranking up there with that wild debacle in Tampa Bay a year ago, a 13-12 game I believe — since I began covering the team. The fielding was attrocious, the hitting non-existent and the result…all too predictable.
Ouch. But, no Geoff, tell us how you really feel.
this isn’t because of a manager. This team is now 13-17 because a group of guys, being paid top dollar, are not getting the job done. Simple as that. The players have to play. The hitters have to hit. The closers have to get the saves. The middle relievers have to keep the bleeding from getting worse. And the guys with gloves have to use them.
That deserves a daaaaaaaaaamn. Is it me, or does Mr. Baker seem bitter that he is no longer covering a playoff contender?
That’s all right Geoff. Maybe the Mariners will turn things around and you won’t have to fret about spending every waking moment of your life dedicated to a group of players that are playing with sorta, kinda heart.
Look at it this way. At least you’re not covering high school sports.

Wait. Scratch that. Yeah, the Mariners suck right now.
